UNIT 1

Task 1

Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.

Use any text on pp. 4-5 of Student’s book English 10-11. Then you can listen to it.

Task 2

Look at the picture. Use the picture on page 29 of Student’s book English 10-11 (ex.5, Reception)

Imagine you are at the hotel reception. In 1.5 minutes you are to ask five direct questions to find out                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           the following:

1) hotel facilities

2) if there is internet access

3) if breakfast is included

4) restaurant working hours

5) the way to the city centre

You have 20 seconds to ask each question.

Task 3

Imagine that while travelling during your holidays you took some photos. Choose one photo to present to your friend.

Use photos on page 9 of Student’s book English 10-11.

In your talk remember to speak about:

• when you took the photo
• what/who is in the photo
• what is happening
• why you took the photo
• why you decided to show the picture to your friend

Study the two photos. Be ready to compare and contrast the photos:

• give a brief description of the photos (action, location)
• say what the pictures have in common
• say in what way the pictures are different
• say which way of spending your holidays at the seaside you’d prefer
• explain why

Use the second photo on page 9 and the second photo on page 10 of Student’s book English 10-11.
